In Hollow Knight: Silksong, a player who ignores red tools is essentially bringing a butter knife to a clockwork siege. The tools are there, they are angry, and they would very much like to be thrown at bosses. Yet many wanderers treat their red tool slots like a decorative spice rack — nice to look at, rarely used, and occasionally dusted with regret. That is a mistake. Crafting Kits are the remedy, and Pharloom hides exactly four of them. Each kit makes tools hit harder, and each one asks for a wallet that has been fed a steady diet of Rosaries. As of 2026, the arithmetic remains stubbornly the same: four kits, four price tags, one very sore purse.

A quick overview helps before the shopping spree begins:

Crafting Kit #1: Deep Docks and the Forge Daughter’s Reasonable Robbery

The first kit is sold by the forge daughter in Deep Docks, and it is the closest thing to a bargain in this entire enterprise. At 180 Rosaries, it is cheap enough that a prudent player should grab it early, before the local wildlife develops opinions about their health bar. This purchase is the gateway drug to actual tool usage: Straight Pins fly straighter, Sting Shards sting harder, and bosses begin to wonder why the floor is suddenly full of unpleasant surprises. A player who skips this kit is like a gardener who owns a shed full of seeds and plants only regret.

Crafting Kit #2: Greymoor, Creige, and the Crawbug Census

The second kit is not purchased at all, which makes it the sentimental favorite. Once Bellhart has been restored to something resembling normal by defeating The Widow, a fresh wishboard appears with requests. One of them, Crawbug Clearing, sends the player to Creige in Greymoor’s Halfway House. Creige wants 25 flying nuisances removed from the sky. Small Crawbugs drop 1 quest item; the bigger ones drop 3. Collect every piece, return to Creige, and the next Crafting Kit is handed over with the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. This quest is less a chore and more a pest-control subscription with a damage upgrade attached.

Crafting Kit #3: The Underworks and the Architect’s Audacity

The third kit requires Act 2 and the Clawline ability. After surviving The Cauldron — a place that treats safety regulations as a rumor — the Architect becomes available as a shopkeeper. This is the same bug responsible for all those clockwork creations that have been hunting the player with unreasonable enthusiasm. Awkward? Yes. Convenient? Also yes. The Architect sells a Crafting Kit for 450 Rosaries, which is the sort of price that makes a wallet curl up like a dried leaf. Still, the damage boost is real, and the player can comfort themselves by imagining the Architect spending the money on a tiny clockwork retirement fund.

Crafting Kit #4: Blasted Steps and Grindle’s Premium Piracy

The fourth and final kit waits in the Blasted Steps map, up and left from the Bell Beast Station. Reaching Grindle’s shop is not a casual stroll: the cave walls slope in a way that demands the Faydown Cloak. That means completing Mount Fay first, a challenge that has reduced many confident players to a puddle of muttered apologies. Once the cloak is earned, Grindle will sell the final kit for 700 Rosaries. Yes, 700. Grindle is not so much a shopkeeper as a toll booth with a personality disorder. But this purchase pushes tools to maximum power, and a fully upgraded Cogfly swarm can turn a crowded arena into a very loud, very satisfying mess.

The Verdict: Buy the Kits, Use the Tools, Stop Suffering Politely

A player who collects all four Crafting Kits will notice a sharp difference in tool damage. The early kit is cheap, the second is free with effort, and the last two are expensive enough to require actual Rosary farming. Still, the payoff is difficult to argue with. Tools are not decorative trinkets; they are extra damage, crowd control, and the difference between a graceful victory and a frantic apology to the nearest bench. In 2026, the advice remains gloriously simple: find the kits, pay the outrageous prices, and let the red tools do the talking. The bosses will not like it, but they were never asked.
